Area communities are inviting the public to attend an array Independence Day weekend activities and events.
San Benito The City of San Benito is inviting the public to celebrate Independence Day at ResacaFest 2023 on Saturday, July 1.
The annual community event, which celebrates the spirit of America, features food vendors, arts & crafts displays, children’s activities, a car show, cold beverages, live music, and a spectacular fireworks show.
Festivities kick off at 4 p.m. at Heavin Memorial Park, located at 705 N. Bowie St. Admission is free.
The live music, headlined by three-time Grammy Award winner Sunny Sauceda, begins at 4:30 p.m. and the fireworks show starts around 9:15 p.m.

According to his promotional materials, Sauceda is a three-time Grammy-winning Tejano music artist from San Antonio. Sauceda plays the accordion and is known as one of the most energetic accordion player in the world. His accordion playing often overshadows his vocal prowess. Sauceda has a sultry but powerful modern voice, according to critics.
