CITY ENGINEER
Raul G. Morales was named as San Benito’s City Engineer. According to a statement by the City of San Benito, Morales brings nearly 40 years of professional expertise to the City, and has worked for numerous engineering firms and municipalities in both the United States and Mexico, including San Antonio, South Padre Island, and Monterrey, Mexico.
His current employment with the City is actually his second stint, as he served as San Benito’s Utilities Engineer from 2018-2020 before moving on to jobs in Brownsville and, most recently, Pflugerville.
Morales earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Nuevo Leon State University (UANL) in Monterrey, Mexico, and has received additional training in several programs, including water distribution network modeling, the design of buildings in coastal regions, and the design and construction of storm shelters, the City’s press release reads.
In addition, Morales has experience with the design and construction management of roads, water treatment facilities and capital improvement projects.
PLANNING MANAGER
The City also welcomed a new planning manager. The City of San Benito, last week, formally introduced Johanna Maldonado as its Planning Manager.
Maldonado was officially hired late last year to oversee the Planning & Zoning Department.
Maldonado brings a wealth of knowledge on city planning, and development practices and procedures, read a City of San Benito media statement.
Prior to coming to San Benito, she worked in the planning departments with the cities of Pharr, Edinburg, Harlingen and, most recently, Weslaco.
