The local Knights of Columbus held its Eighth Annual Pro-Life March on Sunday, Feb. 20.
The procession began at the pavilion in downtown San Benito, the site of construction for the new Veterans War Memorial, and made its way down Stenger Street to the Knights of Columbus (KC) Hall at approximately 1:30 p.m. Marchers partook in the praying of the Rosary as they held protest signs urging an end to abortion.
Joe Ruiz, of the Knights of Columbus Council 3493, Fourth Degree Assembly 1920, serves as chairperson on the Pro-Life board which organizes the march.
“We have been doing this for the last eight years, and our numbers have increasingly been growing every year for a worthy cause,” said Ruiz. “We’re just so blessed that so many people have their hearts in the right place to spare the life of the unborn.”
The march is one of many similar events held by the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville. “We punish people for abusing animals, but we don’t punish people for taking a human life, that’s basically the bottom line,” said Ruiz.
