The 175th anniversary of Texas Independence from Mexico will be celebrated this weekend with the Third Annual Texas Independence Day Celebration, a free two-day event filled with history, gun powder, and family fun.
March 2 will mark the 175th anniversary of the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence, four days before the 175th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo.
The two-day event will begin on Friday, Feb. 25 at 9 a.m. at the Community Building, located on 210 E. Heywood St., with a Texas History Symposium for educators, followed by a symposium, or discussion, held for the public later in the evening at 6:30 p.m. After the public symposium there will be a screening of John Lee Hancock’s “The Alamo” starring Dennis Quaid and Billy Bob Thornton.
