RIO HONDO – According to City of Rio Hondo officials, a veterans’ memorial will be proposed here by the Economic Development and the Industrial Development Corporations.

The proposed veterans’ memorial would be located by city hall on the corner of Country Rd. 106 and Arroyo Boulevard. City officials said the memorial would feature a “V-shaped emergency management sign” facing Country Rd. 106 welcoming tourists to Rio Hondo. The back side of the sign would commemorate the veterans of wars dating as far back as World War I.

The memorial would also have benches and a water fountain. The estimated cost of the memorial is said to be from $63,000 to $53,000.

The boards were scheduled to present the proposal to the Rio Hondo City Commission at a meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
