RIO HONDO, TX—This small community of approximately 2,500 residents is showing that it has a big heart.

Residents of Rio Hondo are coming together in a powerful show of support for Bobbi Jo Adame, a beloved mother and friend who is currently hospitalized in critical condition. A plate fundraiser is being held on Saturday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bridge Church in Rio Hondo.

Plates are $10 and include a beverage, with proceeds going toward Bobbi Jo’s mounting medical expenses. The event is being organized by Elizabeth Hernandez, who has witnessed firsthand how quickly compassion can mobilize action.

“We first heard of Bobbi Jo’s situation from a Facebook post,” Hernandez stated. “My heart sank, and we were in shock as anyone would be. I grew up with Richie and was in dance with Bobbi in high school.” That deep-rooted connection, combined with the urgency of Bobbi Jo’s condition, spurred the Hernandez family to act. “My husband instantly knew we needed to start a fundraiser. We firmly believe if you’re blessed, you should bless.”

The outpouring of support from the Rio Hondo community has exceeded expectations. “We’ve had an overwhelming response from the community, who have helped surpass the goal for donations,” Hernandez shared. The success of the effort is a reflection not only of Bobbi Jo’s impact but also of the strong bonds that define this small town. “Bobbi’s story has shown how we as a community can come together to offer a lending hand in difficult situations.”

Bobbi Jo is described as a vibrant and loving mother, someone whose energy has long lit up the sidelines at her children’s sporting events. “She’s the one who cheers the loudest at her kids’ games and encourages everyone around her,” said Hernandez. “She has been a source of strength and joy for her family and friends.”

Now, in her time of need, that same energy is being returned to her by those whose lives she has touched.

For those unable to attend the fundraiser in person, donations are still being accepted through Cashapp and Zelle. Hernandez also noted that extra plates will be available for purchase on the day of the event. “If you were not able to purchase tickets, you can reach out to me. We’ll be selling additional plates at the site.”
As the date approaches, organizers hope the fundraiser will serve not only as financial relief but also as a visible show of love.

“I hope this event shows the family how immensely they are loved and cared for,” Hernandez said. “We want to thank God for allowing us to host this fundraiser, and we’d like to thank each and every one of you who has messaged, donated, or offered help. There are far too many to mention personally, but know we are forever grateful.”
