Sheriff’s deputies then made contact with Jessica Lopez who reportedly admitted to hitting her husband in the back of his head with a cup, according to the CCSO report.
Sheriff’s deputies proceeded to place her under arrest for T.P.C. 22.02: Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon, a Second Degree Felony. She was transported to the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center for arraignment. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
Also in San Benito, is separate and unrelated incident, sheriff’s deputies arrested a local woman on an Assault Family Violence charge.
According to a CCSO report, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at 2:33 p.m. hours, sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of Del Valle Ave. and Del Rey Ave. in San Benito in reference to a welfare concern on a female allegedly “stumbling” down the middle of the road.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the location and upon patrolling the area, they located a female matching the description of the woman allegedly stumbling down the road at the identified intersection.
According to the CCSO, upon making contact with the female, deputies immediately noticed that she was highly intoxicated. The female identified herself as Laura Isabelle Ybarra. Ybarra admitted that she had been drinking Bush beer and was on her way to a friend’s house. According to the sheriff’s report, she displayed a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath and red, glossy bloodshot eyes, unsteady balance, and spoke with slurred speech.
As deputies continued their investigation, they discovered that several minutes earlier and before they made contact with Ybarra, an alleged assault had been reported at nearby home.
As the investigation continued, deputies learned that Ybarra had allegedly gone into her daughter’s house without permission to wait for her. Once her daughter arrived, according to deputies, Ybarra allegedly began arguing with her daughter and lunged at her, apparently trying to choke her. Her daughter, however, defended herself, and Ybarra allegedly landed punches on her head and face.
As family members rushed to separate them, Ybarra once again allegedly punched her daughter on her face before walking away, reads a CCSO report.
Deputies corroborated these events with other witnesses at the scene and with the injuries sustained by the reported victim. Laura Isabelle Ybarra was subsequently arrested and charged with assaulting her daughter and with Public Intoxication. She was transported to the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito for arraignment. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
