Beer dispute leads to stabbing

LOS FRESNOS, TX —An alleged stabbing incident over a beer dispute has landed a couple in jail, according to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

According to the CCSO, on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, deputies responded to 30000 block of Calle Alegre located in the Los Fresnos area in reference to a male subject who was stabbed multiple times.

Deputies made contact with the reported victim on the roadway of Calle Alegre who said that he had been stabbed. Deputies observed two stab wounds and began medical treatment until emergency medical services arrived. Deputies learned the suspect who allegedly perpetrated the stabbing was Roman Garcia.

The reported victim further told deputies that a confrontation began due to Roman Garcia drinking a beer that the reported victim had purchased. The reported victim stated he confronted Garcia and during the confrontation, Garcia took his pocketknife and allegedly stabbed the victim on the left shoulder. The victim told deputies that the confrontation continued, leading to the victim sustaining another stab wound to his left leg. The victim was transported to an area hospital for further medical attention.

Deputies conducted a follow-up investigation on La Coma St. in Los Fresnos where they were able to locate Garcia. Deputies observed signs of him being in a confrontation as he was bleeding, according to deputies. Emergency medical services arrived at the location and transported Garcia to an area hospital for medical treatment for his injury.

CCSO investigators interviewed a witness who was transported to the sheriff’s office. According to a CCSO report, the witness said that a call from the victim was received, informing the witness that he was stabbed by Garcia. The witness further reported to deputies that when the victim and Garcia arrived, the victim was cleaning the wound he sustained during the altercation. The witness further told investigators that Garcia informed the witness that he stabbed the victim.

Once Garcia was released from the hospital, he was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault w/ Deadly Weapon Family Violence and transported to the CCSO for an interview with investigators. Garcia invoked his right to remain silent and was transported to the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito for booking procedures.

Upon securing the crime scene for investigators, Julia Alicia Garcia arrived at the location. According to the CCSO, Julia Garcia stated to deputies that she had arrived earlier to the home and saw the suspect, Roman Garcia, tending to his wound in the kitchen area. Julia Garcia stated that she assisted Roman Garcia in cleaning his wound. Furthermore, Julia Garcia informed deputies she was called by the reported victim telling her he was stabbed by Roman Garcia.

According to the CCSO, Julia Garcia added that she then transported Roman Garcia from the home to an area on FM 803 and Highway 100 and left him on the side of the road. According to the CCSO, as deputies continued the investigation, Julia Garcia allegedly changed her statement and informed deputies that she had transported Roman Garcia to a home on La Coma St.

Investigators determined that Julia Garcia knew Roman Garcia was the suspect in a stabbing and transported him to another location so that deputies could not effect an arrest for Roman Garcia.

Julia Alicia Garcia was arrested for Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution, a Class “A” Misdemeanor. Julia A. Garcia was subsequently booked into the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito without incident. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
