Man accused of retaliation

According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at about 8 a.m., Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence at the 25000 block of Resaca Santa, in the San Benito area, regarding a welfare concern on a residence with reportedly opened and damaged doors.

Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies reportedly observed the residence’s front and rear doors were damaged. Sheriff’s deputies made contact with a male subject identified as 29-year-old Eduardo Leines, who reportedly told deputies that he once resided at the residence.

According to the CCSO report, sheriff’s deputies observed damage throughout the residence which included broken doors, holes in the walls, and multiple damaged household items.

The CCSO report indicates that Leines confessed to causing the property damage. Sheriff’s deputies then made contact with the homeowner who is Leines’s former spouse and whom was out of town.

The homeowner informed deputies that Leines allegedly did not have effective consent to damage the residence. The damage was later estimated to be in excess of $2,500 in value.

The homeowner subsequently requested to file criminal charges against Leines.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Leines and transported him to the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito pending arraignment. Leines is charged with Criminal Mischief, TPC: 28.03, a State Jail Felony.
