Lindsey Clayborn, Assistant Principal of Rising Scholars Academy in San Benito, has been named the 2024 Region 1 Assistant Principal of the Year by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).
The peer-based award recognizes assistant principals from the 20 TEPSA Regions across the state for their commitment to student learning as evidenced by exceptional school leadership.
“Lindsey plays a critical role in ensuring student success on her campus. We are proud to recognize her leadership and service to Texas PK-8 students and teachers,” said TEPSA Executive Director Harley Eckhart.
One TEPSA Region AP of the Year will be selected as the 2024 National Assistant Principal of the Year for Texas. Supported by Horace Mann, the national award recognizes leaders who are committed to excellence through programs designed to meet the academic and social needs of all students; have firmly established community ties with parents and local business organizations; show strong educational leadership by setting high expectations for school staff and students; and exhibit exceptional leadership in a particular school program.
Honorees will be recognized at the TEPSA Awards Dinner June 12 at the Round Rock Kalahari.
TEPSA, whose hallmark is educational leaders learning with and from each other, has served Texas PK-8 school leaders since 1917. Member-owned and member-governed, TEPSA has more than 5,900 members who direct the activities of more than three million PreK-8 school children.
Rising Scholars is a South Texas Independent School District (STISD) campus. STISD is a magnet school district headquartered in Mercedes, TX. STISD operates magnet schools that draw students from three counties: Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy.
The only all-magnet school district in the state, STISD offers students an educational alternative by providing hands-on training in various professional career fields.
Because it is a magnet school district, there is no cost for students to attend, and school bus transportation is also free of charge. STISD schools maintain an open enrollment policy, meaning any student can attend so long as they reside within the tri-county area.
All schools are accredited by the Texas Education Agency and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. According to district statistics, over 95 percent of STISD graduates continue their education at major universities or technical colleges.
