An area man is facing criminal charges for allegedly threatening the lives of a group of people, according to a Cameron County Sherriff’s Office (CCSO) report.
According to the CCSO, on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at approximate 7 p.m., Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence on the 24000 block of E. Brown Tract Rd. in San Benito, regarding a reported disturbance.
Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies made contact with a 73-year-old female. The woman explained to deputies that her daughter’s boyfriend, identified as 59-year-old Oscar Romero, arrived at her residence, allegedly intoxicated. The female told deputies that Romero began to allegedly verbally threaten her and two others by saying he was going to “kill them with a gun and with a machete.”
The CCSO report noted that all three parties told the deputies that they did not see Romero possess a gun or a machete; however, they believed the threat to be genuine, causing them to fear for their lives. Sheriff’s deputies made contact with Romero who was still on the property.
The report went on to read that the sheriff’s deputies searched Romero and the surrounding area, but did not locate a gun or a machete.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Romero and transported him to the Cameron County Carrizales-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito pending arraignment. Romero is charged with three counts of a Terroristic Threat, TPC: 42.07, a Class “B” Misdemeanor.
