itizens with preconceived notions of law enforcement will likely have them shattered after spending time with Cameron County Pct. 3 Constable Adrian Gonzalez. Currently seeking a third term in office, the veteran law enforcement officer is known for his boundless energy and consummate goodwill towards his constituents that goes above and beyond his responsibilities as one of the county’s top cops.

Recently, with the absence of the Toys for Tots campaign in the Valley, the Constable saw a need for toys to be given to area economic disenfranchised families for Christmas and took action, opening his office as toy drop-off location and organizing a charity concert at the local VFW post in Harlingen featuring local bands, including a few featuring himself as lead singer, and charging a new, unwrapped toy per entrance to contribute to the cause.

It’s for this and other reasons why Gonzalez was named the San Benito News First Annual Resaca City MVP.
Gonzalez, 48, a San Benito native who attended San Benito public schools, worked for the county’s district attorney’s office as an investigator and sheriff’s office as a deputy before returning to San Benito Consolidated Independent School District (SBCISD), where he worked as a district officer for a decade (2006-16) before running for constable.

Gonzalez holds a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCLOE) Master Peace Officer Certification. He also has certification as a mental health officer and as a K9 officer, having served as a K9 officer for the San Benito school district.

Gonzalez holds several other certifications and began his career as a reserve officer in Rio Hondo in 2002-03. He moved on to work for the Santa Rosa Police Department for approximately eight months before joining the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office. All told, Gonzalez has over 20 years of law enforcement experience.

After his stint as a SBCISD officer, which included a tenure as the district’s narcotics K9 supervisor, in 2015, Gonzalez launched a successful bid for Pct. 3 Constable, an election he won in November of 2016. In 2022, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Justice and Administration from Wayland Baptist University – Rio Grande Valley.
