Crash kills LF resident

BROWNSVILLE, TX —Police here recently released more details involving a crash which occurred in late October of this year and claimed the life of a Los Fresnos High School graduate residing here at the time of the incident.

According to a Brownsville Police Department (BPD) report, at around 1:30 a.m. on October 25, 2023, Brownsville Police Patrol Officers and BPD Crime Scene Investigators responded to the 2900 block of W. Alton Gloor Blvd. for a major single-vehicle accident that claimed the life of 24-year-old Stacy Gisel Zavala, originally of Los Fresnos.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a gray 2012 GMC Terrain, reportedly operated by Zavala, was traveling westbound on W. Alton Gloor. For reasons still under investigation, Zavala failed to maintain control of the vehicle. The vehicle proceeded to strike an embankment, causing it to rollover and hit an electrical pole and fence. Zavala was pronounced deceased at the scene.

It is unknown on whether speed or alcohol played a factor in this accident. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending. This crash remains under active investigation, according to the Brownsville PD.
“On behalf of the Brownsville Police Department, we offer our most sincere condolences to the Zavala family,” read a BPD news release.

Zavala is believed to have worked at Little Miracles Learning Center on Price Rd. Friends and family took her Facebook page to express their sorrow. “I will miss you always my beautiful friend. ‘Grandma’ loves (you), that’s what everyone called me at the daycare. Rest in peace. Love you always and forever,” wrote Silvia Sierra Hinojosa addressing Zavala’s last known post.
