The San Benito Consolidated Independent School District (SBCISD) is nearing its school year’s end with a reshuffled board of trustees.

Orlando Lopez is now the new president of the administrative body that also has two newly elected members, Frutoso Gomez and Alejandro “Alex” Reyna.

The three, plus trustee Rudy Corona, ran in the May 7 election and won their respective races.
Each of them took the oath of office during Tuesday’s, May 16, meeting of the board.

Lopez and Corona ran for re-election while Gomez and Reyna ran for the first time.

Lopez, the new board president, said he will continue doing his job of helping the students, district and staff.
Reyna said he wanted to thank his family and his supporters.

“I am here to do the right thing,” he said. “I am an independent voice, and I am here for everybody.”
Gomez, who was appointed three months ago, said he was undecided about running but threw his hat in the ring because of the encouragement he received from the people.

Trustee Ariel Cruz, now the board vice president, said they are going to do what needs to be done for the benefit of the students and the community.

These people soon forget that they are there for the students and their families. Instead they are there for their own benefit. They need to be held accountable for their shortcomings . And when it comes to spending tax payer money they need to spend it wisely as if it was their own. So much education but no common sense.
