Any San Benito Consolidated Independent School District student participating in school activities, whether on school grounds or away, has insurance coverage in the event an unfortunate incident takes place. The district board has approved renewing an insurance contract for another year that calls for paying a provider $152,000.
“This is a win-win for the district,” Abraham Gallegos, the director of administrative services, told the board during Tuesday’s, May 9, meeting. “Insurance costs are skyrocketing.”
The board also heard a financial report from Monica Mata, the district’s chief financial officer, for the period ending on April 30.
In cash and investments, the district ended the month with more than $63.3 million in cash and investments. The district spent more than $8.8 million for its general operating and interest and sinking funds.
The district’s tax levy i more than $16.6 million and collected more than $310,000 in April. The district wrote checks for more than $11 million for a number of expenses, including paying more than $6.6 million in payroll costs.
The board approved a memorandum of understanding between the district and the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office and with Teach for America.
