If there were any questions about just how good the Lady ’Hounds are this season, they were firmly answered over the weekend. After delivering a virtuoso performance against the second ranked Los Fresnos Lady Falcons, San Benito went on to notch two more blowout victories in five days.
Now, with their winning streak hitting 15 and a clean sweep of the first round of district games under the belt, the Lady ’Hounds are just three games away from starting their playoff run with the best record in team history.
The game against Los Fresnos was one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the season, but San Benito put the game away early, coming out with a 13-8 victory that snapped the Falcons six game win streak. Not only did the Lady ’Hounds manage the most runs Los Fresnos has allowed all year, the five run difference was the second largest loss of the year for the 24-4 Falcons.
“Los Fresnos is good every year so they are a valid measuring stick,” said Head Coach Elias Martinez.
“We knew we had a special team, but to put up 13 runs against a team like that is a very impressive accomplishment.”
After wrapping up their biggest victory of the season, the Lady ’Hounds continued their dominance over the district by downing Weslaco and Hanna by a combined score of 19-2. The two blowout victories perfectly encapsulate the season for San Benito as they are currently outscoring their 29 opponents by an average of more than eight runs.
