With graduation on the horizon, the Region One Education Service Center (ESC) GEAR UP: College Ready, Career Set! project invited juniors from 16 of its participating school systems to attend a six-day circuit of Midwestern college visits and post-secondary development activities. Students from San Benito, Rio Hondo and Los Fresnos were included in the tours.
The group of about 40 students and guardians took to the skies March 12 to begin their voyage, which included visits to Ohio State University, the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, St. Mary’s College, the University of Notre Dame, Northwestern University and the University of Chicago.
College tour travelers represented Donna North High School, Grulla High School, La Joya Juarez-Lincoln High School, La Feria High School, Lasara High School, Los Fresnos High School, Mercedes Early College Academy, Mercedes High School, Mission High School, Nikki Rowe High School, Port Isabel High School, Rio Hondo High School, Roma High School, San Benito High School, Santa Maria High School, Santa Rosa High School and Zapata High School.
