Last month, City of San Benito Assistant City Manager Fred Bell was hired by the City of La Grange as its new City Manager. According to the City of La Grange, Bell’s first day will be on March 27.

Responding to questions regarding Bell’s decision to apply for the position in La Grange and his official resignation date, City of San Benito Public Relations Director David Favila said the City does not comment on personnel moves.

Bell was hired by the La Grange City Council on February 13. The two other finalists were the former Rockport City Manager Kevin Carruth and former Bastrop Assistant City Manager for Community Engagement Rebecca Gleason.

Last October, the La Grange City Council set the City Manager’s salary range between $130,000 to $175,000 annually, which includes a base salary plus benefits.

La Grange is a city in Fayette County, located in the center of the Texas-German belt. The population was 4,391 at the 2020 census.

Bell is the Assistant City Manager and oversees Internal Services as well as the daily affairs of several departments within the City at the discretion of the City Manager.

The city manager won’t leave because the city commission mayor and Commissioners continue to give him raises and continue renewing his contract. The commission is to blame here because they have the power to remove the city manager they just don’t have the common sense. No education no common sense.
