On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at about 4 p.m., San Benito Police Department (SBPD) officers responded to East Business 77 near PFC Juan Garza Road in relation to an automobile crash.
According to a City of San Benito/SBPD press release, upon arrival, officers discovered a white Chrysler Pacifica had crashed into a drainage ditch. The vehicle was occupied by an unresponsive female.
The San Benito Fire Department was called to assist with the extraction, but during those efforts, it was discovered that the female had succumbed to her injuries.
The city’s media statement went onto read that a preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle may have lost control while traveling westbound on East Business 77.
It is believed that the vehicle rolled over several times before falling into the ditch.
This crash is still under investigation by San Benito Police Patrol and Investigative Divisions. The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time until proper notice is made to family or next of kin.
ILLEGAL ENTRY
On Feb. 9, 2023, the SBPD reported on its Facebook page that an individual illegally gained entry to the First Responders Park control and concession rooms, causing extensive damage to city property.
