The San Benito Public Library is debuting a new astronomy program next Tuesday, Feb. 7, from 5-6 p.m., featuring hands-on activities and astronomy-related presentations.

The subject matter is appropriate for students in fourth grade and above and will take place every first Tuesday of every month from 5-6 p.m.

The program presenter will be Carol Lutsinger, a retired Brownsville teacher of 40 years who has written a column, “Stargazer”, for the Brownsville Herald since 1998. On top of that, Lutsinger is the South Texas Astronomical Society founder, who has also worked as a Solar Educator/Ambassador for the NASA/JPL volunteer program.

The first event, titled Snowballs and Tennis Racquets in Space: STARDUST Memories, will feature the Stardust Mission that forever changed the understanding of comets. Launched on Feb. 7, 1999, the presentation will cover what scientists have learned 26 years later.
