With another impressive victory in its last outing, the Lady ’Hounds basketball team is now just one win away from clinching its first playoff berth in five years.
Boasting one of the most prolific young scorers in the Valley, along with a bevy of elite athletes and an intense defensive identity, San Benito has put together one of the most successful campaigns of the last decade.
With four games left on the schedule as of press time, the Lady ’Hounds record stands at 22-10 with a 4-2 district mark that has them tied for second place in 32-6A. A victory against the 13-13 Rivera Raiders would guarantee at least a playoff spot for the purple and gold with an outside shot at a district title still in play.
After claiming their most impressive victory of the season against the 24-7 Los Fresnos Lady Falcons last week, the Lady ’Hounds went on to suffer their biggest loss since early Nov. in a 54-30 beat down by Weslaco High. It was San Benito’s second loss of the season to the Lady Panthers with a third meeting slated for the season finale.
“[Weslaco] is a tough team, but those are the kind of teams we have to be able to beat if we want to make a deep playoff run,” said Head Coach Abel Moreno. “We have one more shot at them at the end of the season, so, hopefully, we can get our revenge and use that game to springboard ourselves into the playoffs.”
