Don’t look now, but the Greyhound basketball team has taken one of the toughest districts in the entire valley by storm.

With another stunning upset, this time against powerhouse Brownsville Hanna, the ’Hounds have pushed their district record to a perfect 4-0 with just five games left before the playoffs.

Despite the sterling district record, San Benito’s overall mark of 8-9 pales in comparison to the rest of the league with only Rivera’s seven total wins ranking lower.

That’s because while Los Fresnos and Hanna, who have combined for 43 total wins this year, were dominating pre-season tournaments, San Benito struggled to even field a competitive team with the core of their roster stuck on the football field.

Now, led by emerging star (and First Team All-District tight end) Chris Thrailkill, the Greyhounds are two games up on every other school in district and are looking to sweep the first round of district games with a visit to Brownsville Rivera on Friday.

The ’Hounds proved their grit with a 52-49 victory over Hanna on Tuesday that saw them withstand a furious comeback attempt by the home team.
