Stop leads to seizure

On Nov. 30, 2022, a Cameron County Sheriff’s K9 Deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 281 in Los Indios on a gray in color SUV, for failing to maintain a single lane.

According to a statement from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), upon making contact, the deputy detected a strong odor of Marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

After a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, a couple of packages containing Marijuana were recovered.

The deputy interviewed the driver, Alonso Alegria, who admitted that he was concealing more Marijuana inside his underwear.

After further investigation, a follow up was conducted at Alegria’s residence. At the residence, the deputy located Marijuana and several TCH (Tetrahydrocannabinol) cartridges.

Alegria was placed under arrest and charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance, a first degree felony and delivery of marijuana, a state jail felony.
