Fender nominated for National Registry

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Music icon and local San Benito legend Baldemar Huerta, professionally and better known as Freddy Fender, received a posthumous honor this week as members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) nominated a number of musical works for inclusion in the National Recording Registry, Fender’s being among them.

This week, Rep. Joaquin Castro (TX-20), Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Chair Raul Ruiz (CA-36), and CHC Vice Chair Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) led the CHC in nominating 33 works by Latino musicians for inclusion in the Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry.
