The Los Fresnos Rodeo Committee has received a $50,000 Hometown Grant from T-Mobile, which they used to build a permanent stage and pave the midway at the Los Fresnos Rodeo Grounds.
T-Mobile has committed $25 million in grants to small towns over a five-year period. The purpose of the Hometown Grant is for small towns and for projects that bring families together, among other purposes.
Rodeo Chairman Larry Cantu said he believes the Los Fresnos Rodeo met many of the requirements T-Mobile was looking for.
“In particular, that we bring families together and that our goal is to provide scholarships to our youth in the area,” Cantu said. “This year we gave over $21,000 in scholarships to students in a good number of the schools in Cameron County.”
The new stage and paved midway at the Rodeo Grounds are already completed, and the T-Mobile Event being held on Nov. 27 will be the first concert on the newly constructed stage.
