County jailer arrested

OLMITO—On November 16, 2022, Cameron County Sheriff Investigators executed four arrest warrants on Jose Alberto Rivas, age 34. Rivas was arrested after a tip from an inmate prompted an investigation into his behavior at the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito.

According to a statement released by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office, after an extensive investigation into the inappropriate allegations and conduct of Rivas while in his role as a Cameron County Jail Staff Sergeant, sufficient evidence was collected to charge Rivas with the following:

– two counts of Violation of Civil Rights of Person in Custody 39.04(b): Improper sexual activity with an inmate in custody or under his supervision; and

– two counts of Official Oppression 39.03(d): Request for sexual favors, or physical conduct of a sexual nature of an inmate.
