Last Tuesday, the Boys’ & Girls’ Club of San Benito sustained major wind damage to its pavilion roof, leading the Club to close for the remainder of the week.

The 50 mph winds that caused the pavilion’s closing last week also led to the City of San Benito closing off Stookey Road to avoid heavy debris falling onto passing cars.

The Club reopened last Monday after bringing in a company from Mission to pick up the remaining debris; however, the pavilion remains permanently closed until it is completely fixed.

The B&G Club created a Facebook fundraiser aimed at raising $10k for repairs. So far, they have raised $4,175 from the online fundraiser, but Club President Liz Chavez said they have already received various calls from community members asking how else they can donate.

“A lot of businesses and individuals who have had their kids go through our facilities, whether through sports league or summer programs, have called in to drop off donations,” Chavez said.
