It was over a year ago when Eddie Santiago decided to take some action to try to get his street fixed. After years of having to maneuver through one of the most pothole infested streets in the entire city and enduring an estimated $2,000 of damage to his vehicle, Santiago managed to get virtually everybody in his neighborhood to sign a petition asking for the City to fix their street, Resaca Drive. However, after 22 signatures, a face-to-face meeting with the mayor, and 17 long months, Santiago says that the City has done nothing more than fill a few pot-holes with gravel, a complaint that mirrors that of many local citizens throughout the community.

Fix it with your bat
This street issue has been going on for years it seems. Politicians and the power patrol of the city push for the streets they live on or near or frequently access. If it doesn’t benefit certain people, it’s not worth doing. ???
Logic is that you can’t access all the small roads without the main roads. How long has it been since Stenger has been repaired? Too much to ask for? Well then how about this – how long has been since Stenger has been restriped? The city wants to relocate the skate park Stookey Park, along with the B&G Club and Little League it already houses, yet won’t repair the street that leads to it. If it benefits the city, it’s not worth doing.???
Couldn’t agree with you more, Logic.
Anyone with a brain knows fully well that the only streets being addressed are those picked by the commission members. They are the ones who selected the streets to be addressed in the 1st place and The San Benito News published the list. The 2007 certificate of obligations (that is seven years ago) had money specifically to repair Stenger Street. SEven years later, the money has still not been spent because Stenger is still a mess. How can the city attract businesses to Stenger street when it is in the condition it is in.
This what we get when we keep electing the same people over and over again with promises of we will deliver or I will listen to the people or I am a businessman and I have experience. We desperately need some new commissioners.
Get real people!
Streets shafer, alden , and whalen need to get fixed. They keep fixing other streets these streets keep getting ignored. So where does our tax dollars go?
