Adella Chidester

SAN BENITO—Adella Chidester lived nearly 103 years of active, meaningful and loving life. She recently commented Adella Chidester about all the changes and historic events she had witnessed. She passed away November 30 at her home in Harlingen, Texas, with friends and family at her side.
She is survived by one son, Willie, and his wife Patricia. She was blessed with a grandson, Bobby Joe, his wife Susan, and a great grandson, Tim D. Chidester. She also has a foster daughter, Zetta Thomae, who has sons Henry Jr. and Dennis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Chidester; a grandson, Nathan Chidester; her parents and three brothers.
Adella was well known for making over 350 quilts, many of which were prize winners. She was renowned for the fabulous wedding cakes she made.
She had her own beauty shop open for over 50 years in Blakesburg, Iowa; and when she retired she gave the historic little building to the city to be used as a museum since it had housed the first Post Office in town.
Adella touched many lives and had many friends with whom she visited on a regular basis. She will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
Memorial services will be held at Golden Palms in Harlingen, Texas, and in Iowa at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Blakesburg Historic Preservation Society, P.O. Box 183, Blakesburg, Iowa 52536.
