Football season is officially underway in San Benito. The Greyhounds hit the field early Monday morning for their first team practice of the season. With their first scrimmage a little over a week away, second year head coach Dan Gomez is eager to see how his team will perform while trying to replace seven 1st-team all-district players from last year.
The biggest void might be at the quarterback and running back positions, where Christian Sierra and Gabriel Vasquez both graduated after accounting for a combined 4,160 yards of total offense. Stepping in for Sierra at quarterback this year will be J.R. Gaitan, who played sparingly last year as a backup quarterback and kick returner. Despite having a limited amount of opportunities, Gaitan was able to rack up over 500 yards of total offense.
