San Benito warrant officer Arturo Palos, who suffered a heart attack a couple weeks ago, continues to fight for his life in a Houston hospital with doctors saying he has a “50/50” chance of survival.
Doctors are attempting to get Palos an artificial heart while he awaits a heart transplant. The 49-year-old officer, who has been with the San Benito Police Department since 2002, has been diagnosed with a blood infection but doctors remain optimistic about his recovery. According to San Benito Human Resource Secretary Yolanda Villfranca, who has been in contact with the Palos’ family, doctors were ready to perform surgery on him as of Tuesday afternoon.
