When San Benito resident Rebecca Maxwell got her dog back from San Benito Animal Control, her reaction statement described it all: “This is not my dog,” Maxwell told Animal Control Officer Josh Gonzalez.
According to Maxwell, her dog, Lady, a 6-year old Black Labrador, was taken into custody by animal control after allegedly nipping a little girl after breaking free from her home a couple weeks ago.
Maxwell says that animal control kept Lady, who is an inside dog, for a total of 12-days, and when she was returned, she was in a very emaciated condition.

I remember when our baby Hope was quarantined for allegedly biting a person walking by our yard. The person described a dark brown scruffy long-haired dog and our Hope was a red short-haired dog. We argued they had the wrong dog as our dog was never aggressive and had no reports before but you can’t win. They stated it was our address so they still took her in and when we got her back 2 weeks later she was in bad shape. She was filthy, skinny and just not the same dog. I’m more than sure they get neglected and mistreated. Her demeanor was never the same against strangers after that. It took some time to rehabilitate her.
Sorry this just does not make sense. A nip…really? skin breakage or scratch for holding a dog. My dog has been there, and did not have any problem with them. they only hold for like 3 or 4 days thats it….ten to 12 if no rabies shots and they have to look at the dog or observe or something like that.
Lady sounds like she is just looking for a lawsuit….I bet she already has or has had several against the city or school. I bet you….
