It started as a normal day on Winchell St. in San Benito. Kids rode their bicycles in the area, neighbors worked on their yards, and the site of barbeque smoking was in the air. Then all of a sudden, there was a different kind of smoke in the air.

The pursuit eventually ended after a police unit collided with an unrelated passing vehicle at the intersection of Sam Houston Boulevard and East Stenger St., which allowed the suspect to escape without restraint. .
