As the deadline to run in the May elections of the San Benito Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees and the San Benito City Commission draws closer, the five offices currently up for re-election remain unopposed.

SBCISD Trustees up for re-election this year include the following: Fatima Huerta, Place 1; Anna Cruz, Place 2; and Yliana González, Place 3.

Place 3 and 4 Commissioners are also up for re-election this year. Commissioner James D. Penny holds Place 3, where Place 4 is held by Joe D. González. At least three individuals have picked up packets to run for City Commission, but no one has officially submitted their information as of press time Tuesday.

    Huerta and Yliana gotta go!

  1. Finally it appears our school district will do something right and that’s hire the county to run its corrupted elections process. I agree that the county should run the elections moving forward for both the city and school, because there has been a lot questions being raised of the errors that have occurred in the past. Unfortunately, we are seeing the results in with schools financial standing is extremely horrible and the city in shambles ( water plant situation $17million)! This statement is a fact and not allegations as some would say.. The benefits of this abuse on our town is extremely evident when you look at school board member house Ana Cruz. Her husband Orlando Cruz from Cruz and Hogan built the water plant several years ago. This is a prime example that there is no shame by these politicians in our town. People with the county running our elections your voting rights will not be violated and will be respected as is should.. 2015 change will come, trust US!!!!’
