SALES TAX REPORT: San Benito’s upward trend of gains continues

San Benito has seen yet another rise in sales tax revenue as September produced a 19 percent surge in collections, making it the fourth consecutive month the city has seen an increase.

Revenue increased by 19 percent with September 2014 sales tax revenue, totaling in $368,592.34, which is up from $309,717.56 the same month last year. In August, revenue went up from $292,409.49 in 2013 to $315,937.53 in 2014.

In July, San Benito reported a 3.25 percent sales tax gain with $312,052.90 generated in collections – this was up from the $302,218.33 reported during the same period the year prior. And in June, San Benito’s collections increased by 3.47 percent – from $334,736.21 in 2013 to $346,363.43 in 2014.

To date for the year, San Benito has seen an increase in sales tax revenue of 2.16 percent, from $3,548,841.39 to $3,625,541.45.

Other Cameron County communities seeing an increase  include Port Isabel (4.97 percent, up to $166,141.02 from $158,271.41); Laguna Vista (3.92 percent, up to $15,342.45 from $14,762.47); Los Fresnos  (70.42 percent to $86,336.90 from $50,659.73); Harlingen (3.38 percent to $1,874,777.09 from $1,813,355.32); Bayview (94.68 percent  to $791.88 from $406.75); Rio Hondo (21.69 percent  to $16,814.41 from $13,817.30); Combes (37.22 percent to $9,079.00 from $6,615.91); Primera (20.19 percent to $12,845.57 from $10,687.28); Rancho Viejo (113.96 percent to $6,805.03 from $3,180.41); Los Indios (41.23 percent to $4,772.59 from $3,379.30); and Santa Rosa (0.43 percent to $6,063.73 from $6,037.68).

Cities reporting losses for September are South Padre Island (7.74 percent, from $250,437.23 to $231,041.94), and Palm Valley (11.52 percent, from $5,934.89 to $5,250.99).

Cameron County’s total for September 2014 was up 6.46 percent – $6,032,332.00 this year compared to $5,665,810.26 in 2013. Its year-to-date totals are up 3.71 percent to $63,262,106.14 from $60,994,392.68.
