RHISD seeks $1 million loan to pay staff

cashRIO HONDO – Officials with the Rio Hondo Independent School District plan on acquiring a $1 million loan to compensate employees, this after Superintendent Ismael Garcia said cuts were made to accommodate rising expenses.

Garcia identified two factors that he said led officials to propose a loan necessary to meet payroll for the next two months.

“A loss of enrollment to other schools, which caused there to be more employees than students,” Garcia said when asked what warranted the loan proposal, acknowledging that the district’s size of staff is not comparable with the size of the student body.
