San Benito CISD Board Member Yliana González recently raised concerns that “oversights” may have affected the outcome of the May 10 election.

González sent an email on Sunday, May 18, to SBCISD Business Manager Emma McCall, Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ismael Cantu and Cameron County Elections Administrator Christopher J. Davis listing said concerns.

In the correspondence, which was obtained from the school district by the San Benito News via a public records request, González informed the email recipients of matters she sought “feedback/clarification” on but noted a “sense of urgency” due to the swearing in of new board members at the May 20 meeting. González prefaced her concerns with the following:

It appears that these new members are being financed by insurance people from Weslaco and Pharr. AND the worst thing the reinstated super may have ties with that same firm. Time will tell the future I hope we are not another progreso.

And she is an educator? Ms. Gonzalez, the voters of SBCISD spoke! The got tired of your demeanor! They voted for people who have common sense. Now, that the power has been shifted? You want to cry foul! This is a clear message to you when your term is up, you’re out! Whoever runs against you, will win because of your tyrant controlling.
Now that Aguilera is out? Will her father be making money from the district like he did when his daughter was on the board? That calls for an investigation?

    She’s grasping at straws
    Still searching for election flaws
    For surely someone did cheat
In order for her friends to be beat
    But without a doubt
    They are certainly out
She no longer the president can be
Since she lost her puppets you see
    They did not win
    She’s now a has been

      Great work Unknown Poet
Something else…you may not know it
Folks all over voted not to put stupidity back in place
while some in power felt they might be holding the ace.
Yes indeed the voters had the chuckle
while sweeping out the trash without a buckle.

When asked if she’s had similar concerns in previous elections, González said, “In the past, I had never requested to see documents for the election specifically. I don’t know what prompted me, to be honest with you, to request that information. But I’m glad I did because I saw some of the things that we could do better to improve our elections process.”” -SBN

I don’t know what prompted me? Perhaps the fact that all your amigos lost and you and your amigos no longer have control of the board? Perhaps? Maybe? Just maybe? To quote you, “It just seems too coincidental.

    Really, Ms. Rodriguez? REALLY??
Let take a look again at the election results:

    Arnold Padilla – 2,170
    June Aguilera – 882

    Hector Leal- 1,675
    Roberto Benavides – 650
    Rene Salinas – 452
    Joyce Aguirre – 274.

    Oscar Medrano – 1,855
    Orlando Lopez – 1,213

    Angel Mendez- 1,094
    Julian Huerta – 788
    Gilbert Weaver – 721
    Esteban Rodriguez 453

Exactly where is the problem?? The closest race was won by over 300 votes?

What is clear to many in the community: You have again abused your official capacity as a SBCISD board member by attempting to retaliate and obstruct the results of a duly called school board election. AGAIN you have caused the district to suffer undo public ridicule and harm.

One other thought for you Ms. Rodriguez…
If you want to play private eye you might want to look into SB City Commission Pl. 2 race where the difference was just 6 votes, (1,146 to 1,140).
Consider these facts: Ms. Vega won the early vote, won the vote on election day, but LOST the election, (supposedly by 3-1 on 20 ‘mail-in’ votes)!! NOW there is one for you to ponder! That one SMELLS of some hanky panky with the vote, and should be investigated by someone. Maybe you can help them, Ms R??

It is amazing how quickly you people respond to allegations brought up by Mrs. Gonzalez; if there was ANY type of discrepancies in the election WE should all be concerned. It does not matter to me who is on the board as long as the students are put first but “lets see” if Medrano or Ann would have brought this up-I am so sure the same individuals will be applauding their concerns. It may not change the results at all but the citizens can be aware that nothing is run fair in San Benito and what I find more amazing is how you people are so obsessed with Ms. Gonzalez-You guys need to let it go because you are not the voice for the people “You might think you are ” but your not. Hope all these new board members move our district forward and put unity within our board because it is about the children and their future and nothing else. Good Luck Board and hope the decisions you make are for the best interest of our district-not for personal vendetta interest.

While I did vote for all four winners in the school board elections, I agree with your statement that any type of discrepancy in the election, we, the citizens of our community should be concerned. I seriously doubt that Ms. Gonzalez really thought her concerns would result in a new election. Nevertheless, the “oversights” reported by Ms. McCall are unacceptable and, as evidenced by this uproar, they should be corrected a.s.a.p. A larger concern is how Ms. Gonzalez obtained all of this information concerning the irregularities. She and Chuy were getting this type of information from the administrative offices prior to the election, and now, are still receiving this information. Let’s see now . . who at those offices is privileged to this information? Any close relations and/or supporters to the unsuccesful candidates? Hmmmmm . .

I agree with Roberta. As an educator, for the past 25 years, I am concerned that Mrs. Gonzalez can effectively manage a school. I would like to request all of her PDAS evaluations, and concerns that I may address to her and her school district. If she could not demonstrate to the children of San Benito, that they were her FIRST priority, then I question her ability to lead a school, and continue to provide a safe, nurturing, learning environment for the children of Los Fresnos. Did her school accomplish all of the goals she has set forth? According to the TEA website, she did not. Perhaps, an investigation is warranted? Does her school master all of the educational domains set forth by TEA? Not according to the results posted. I guess, we should queston her superiors, with an email, and what improvements have been implemented to Mrs. Gonzalez, and has she addressed them? She would have to remain in Los Fresnos, to continue her employment. No school district, in the valley, including the very large one I work for, would not even give her an interview.

Ileana and Fatima are like lame ducks. If they have any decency which they don’t they should resign. I just hope they don’t do more harm.

Was this letter written by private citizen Yliana Gonzalez, or as then-Board President Yliana Gonzalez? If acting as Board President, was she acting ethically and with board approval when she “obtained documents and data pertinent to this election,” thereby conducting an investigation to challenge its result? Is it proper, as Board President, to officially question the results of an election? Or is this just another example of her being a lone wolf and acting on her own, like in the case of the insurance letter?

Wish the new majority would request TEA to investigate that letter and other questionable decisions by the majority over the past year so that they are not moving forward and building on an unsound foundation laid by them. President Padilla understands the importance of not building on an unsound foundation: When the structure crumbles, it is the current occupants that suffer most by neglecting to rectify the known flaws in the foundation.

Get out of town Yliana. Don’t you see the writing on the wall. You are no longer wanted in San Benito. Trying to stir more problems before you are booted out. Just stay in your seat and don’t say anything more. Keep your mouth shut and do as your told.

GET OVER IT LADY!!!!!.. Two of your puppets are out!..Get ready , you and the other one are next yr ..2015!! … You should be concerned about the students’ well being, and education! Use the wrongfully spent money (interim superintendent) on training teachers how to educate ( become aware, and have some compassion) students with autism and other students with other types of behavior problems!
