Maria de la Luz de Los Rios, 73, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.

She was born in the state of Guanajuato (Ocampo) and spent most of her life in Big Spring, Texas.

She had recently relocated to San Benito to spend time with her mother, Maria de Jesus Hernandez.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel; a son, Raul Hernandez; her father, Gregorio Martinez; and the LOVE OF HER LIFE, CHIQUITA, her chihuahua dog.

She is survived by her sons: Gonzalo Hernandez of Big Spring, Texas, Tomas (Nelda) Hernandez of Edinburg, Texas, and David (Christina) Hernandez of Big Spring, Texas; one daughter, Mary (Jaime) Davila of Houston, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2014 from 2 p.m. – 9 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home in San Benito, Texas. Services will conclude after the viewing, and in accordance with her wishes, cremation will follow.

My Grandma
My Grandma was an awesome lady…never mad or rude, and never mean to me…she loved her dog and would sing to her dog, it would make her dog happy…she loved birds especially canaries, she loved to read her Bible and also loved to go out to eat after her appointments with her Doctors…But most of all, my Grandma…she loved to watch and shop the Home Shopping Network only to turn around and give us what she had purchased… and then there was her jewelry… Oh man, did she LOVE her jewelry… I can honestly say that I have lost a piece of my heart that no one will ever replace…I loved my grandma so very much… Ruby
