It feels good being a Greyhound.
That’s the sentiment San Benito’s new head football coach and athletic director Dan Gomez shared Tuesday just 24 hours into his new gig as the Greyhounds’ fearless leader.
His first order of business on Monday afternoon was to introduce himself to the student athletes, coaches, high school staff and administration. Regarding the football team, Gomez said the 2014 edition of the ’Hounds appear hungry for progress.

WISH YOU AND THE PROGRAM THE BEST! ALL SAN BENITO NEEDS IS TO BE POSITIVE AND BELIEVE. IT STARTS W THE THE COMMUNITY THEN THE PARENTS THEN THE COACH THEN THE PLAYERS!
IF WE START BY DOGGING PPL AND START SPREADING NEGATIVITY OF WHO SHUDA WUDA CUDA THEN THATS NOT THE WAY TO GO. SO SAN BENITO ITS GOING TO TAKE A WHILE THINGS DONT CHANGE OVERNIGHT!
Good luck to our new coach. I hope he was not hired based solely on the fact that he accept the lowest offer of pay. The Board sure does know how to get rid of good teachers. They give us health insurance, on the high plan, that is so expensive it could take every dime of our savings to see a doctor.
Good Luck and let’s go Hounds!
First, I’d like to wish coach Dan Gomez good luck and congratulations as our new Head Coach. He’s young, and because of that I hope he has fresh and new ways of running this program. Now I’m not trying to knock on coach Gomez, but I think the board didn’t pick the best man for the job. I think they picked the cheapest ($$$). I repeat, I’m not knocking on coach Gomez, but when you ask other Head Coaches to take a pay cut of $19,000 – $15,000 to coach here…. You see name dropping out like flys. $83,000 for a former teacher/position coach, and former 12-11 2A head coach is a big pay raise. I would of liked to see coach Cavazos get the job, but that has passed. So again good luck to to our new head coach Dan Gomez. I hope you turn this program around and make everyone (including myself) eat their words for wanting someone else to lead. Go Hounds Go!!
