THEY’RE BAAAACK: Lady ‘Hounds aim for return to state tourney

A year ago at this time, people knew the San Benito Lady ’Hounds were going to be special.

And how special they were!

Last season, the Lady ’Hounds made Valley sports history, becoming the first area team to reach the UIL state softball tournament. San Benito coasted to a 31-5A championship before dispatching of Brownsville Hanna, Edinburg North, Eagle Pass, San Antonio O’Connor and Smithson Valley to win Region-IV and be one of the last four Class 5A teams standing.

In Austin, San Benito succumbed to eventual state champion Lewisville to finish the season 34-3, but not before etching its name with the historic playoff run.
