The San Benito Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of a house fire that occurred Sunday evening.

Firefighters responded to the blaze, located on the 500 block of Franklin Street, at 8:31 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19. According to SBFD Operations Chief Raul Zuniga, investigators are not ruling out arson and described the incident as a “suspicious fire.”

“Right now, we really don’t have anything to say that for sure it is arson, but we’ve eliminated a couple of things,” Zuniga said on Tuesday. “We’re still working on the case. It’s still an open investigation.”
