It goes down as a loss, but it was the missed opportunities that perhaps will haunt the San Benito Greyhounds the most.
Weslaco East used its ground attack to keep the clock moving and capitalized on mistakes as the Wildcats got an important 14-0 win at Bobby Morrow Stadium on Friday night, ending the ’Hounds’ two-game win streak.
Despite another fantastic defensive effort (165 yards allowed), turnovers and mistakes doomed San Benito (3-4, 3-2) in a close contest which whizzed by in just over two hours.

Until you have coached a Varsity Football team I suggest you sit down and be quiet.
We need to support our children and the fans should stay to the end of the game.
if you get the press box to play some Montrose “Bad Motor Scooter “over the sound system with some fireworks I’d stay till the game ends even if they are loseing. But you can bet I’ll be sitting on the winner’s side!
Go Hounds Go!!! We have supported our Greyhounds since we graduated and will continue even after our son Greg and nephews Gavino, Kristian and JC graduate. It breaks my heart to see all the (Fans) leave when we are losing and that is when OUR BOYS NEED OUR SUPPORT THE MOST. I say to those (FANS) SHAME ON YOU!!!
The Plain Truth.. Obviously you didn’t watch the whole game, because the QB was 9 for 13 for 103 yds… two of the four not caught for TDs. and the other two were for big yardage.. next time you want to throw in some stats make sure you tell the truth..
You can bet that that board of 4 will pick one of their “friends” as the new man. And people will sit around and let them do it. Shameful!
It’s a Mess school board, mess academics and mess athletics!
what i saw of this game is that coach gannt does not know how to try to win a game…qb is a good passer and was only used maybe 5 or 6 times during the game…wes. east was expecting the run plays most of the game cause that was sb was doin…why? why couldn’t the coach added more pass plays during the game to mix it up? wes. east pass defense isnt that great on the field if the coach had done his homework he would have notice that in the stats…is he trying on purpose to lose the game since this may very be his last season? im already hearing of how some of the players are tired of him and how he doesn’t pump them up for the games….sb school board was pretty dumb to hire a coach with no experience as a head coach….was it because he worked for the harlingen cardinals and they asked him to be our coach to get back at the cards? im sure it was….coach helms would have made a great coach here for sb and so why wasn’t he hired…he had the experience but yet the school board decided to get an asst coach..with no head coaching experience… just cause he worked for harlingen and los fresnos…..just plain stupid….the school board needs to get their heads out of their butts and hire someone who knows how to win games…we have great football players here who want to win games but they need a great coach to lead them…coach gannt isn’t one of them…
i will always be a GREYHOUND fan no matter what…GO HOUNDS
It’s the Beginning of the End of Coach Spencer Gant. In the red zone – on 4th and goal, you call a draw play and get stopped cold! This guy does not know or never had a clue on how to run an offense. It’s $97,000.00 down the drain again and possibly ended all playoffs hopes. Like Coach Jim Mora of the NFL says “Playoffs, You’re talking Playoffs”!
Greyhound coaching is just a link between the District Champion just like the spread offense and the run offense. Players how can you show pride in their coaches and teammates by making mistakes and turnovers when you’ve probably been playing the game of football since in Jr High? Was it raining? Was anyone sick with the flu? Anyone not playing at a 100%? Oh i forgot football is a MIND GAME. Ok boys lets but this one behind us and get ready for next week. Ya Right!
