NO EFFECT? Local leaders react to government shutdown; gauge short-term impact

The United States Government shutdown went into effect on Tuesday morning at 12:01 a.m., but the effects may not be felt locally for some time, at least according to area leaders.

The U.S. House of Representatives failed to pass a government funding bill before the already extended deadline. The government shutdown is said to have an impact on hundreds of thousands of government employees, many of whom will reportedly be furloughed.
