BROWNSVILLE – Desiree Lee Padilla, 22, was sentenced today to 25 years in prison with no possibility of early release for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Judge Migdalia Lopez of the 197th state District Court sentenced the San Benito resident to 25 years for aggravated sexual assault a child and 10 years for possession of child pornography. Sentences shall be served concurrently.

Padilla was arrested in February by Harlingen PD with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Task Force after sexually-explicit images of a 1-year-old girl were sent by her to a sex offender in Corpus Christi. Padilla and the sex offender had been corresponding via the Internet and text. Assisting in the investigation was the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Cameron County Assistant District Attorneys Stephanie Rollins and Brandy Bailey prosecuted the case. Rollins and Bailey are members of District Attorney Luis V. Saenz’s newly-created Child Abuse Unit.

“The Child Abuse Unit’s creation has allowed us to focus more attention on extreme child abuse cases in an effort to secure convictions,” Rollins said. “Our collaboration with various agencies helps build stronger cases against child predators.”
