Thomas Kuhn, a resident of Port Isabel and San Benito High School AP chemistry teacher, is seen with his medal at the USAT (USA Taekwondo) National Championships in Chicago, held July 3-8.

The next time San Benito High School students step into Thomas Kuhn’s AP chemistry class, they’ll be in the presence of a national taekwondo gold medalist.

A green belt competitor in Korean martial arts, the 65-year-old Kuhn defeated the odds by winning the gold medal in sparring and the silver in form at the 2013 USAT (USA Taekwondo) National Championships in Chicago, held July 3–8.
