A Rio Hondo High School student was arrested Thursday for threatening to kill an entire family and to eat one victim’s “heart.”

According to Detective Rogelio Banda, Jr. of the San Benito Police Department, 17-year-old Alexandria E. Gonzales of Harlingen was taken into custody at approximately 10:12 a.m. on June 6 and was charged with two counts of phone harassment.

The victim, another 17-year-old female who attends the same school as the suspect, reported that Gonzales allegedly sent her over 700 text messages in just two weeks.

Some of the texts read, “I’ll shoot your whole family right now,” and, “Maybe I’ll kill myself and make everyone think you did it.”

The victim has stated that Gonzales allegedly targeted her, the victim, for dating the suspect’s ex-boyfriend.

What has since transpired has been a series of events that the victim’s grandmother, Olga B. Rodriguez of San Benito, called “a nightmare.”

“In total, 1,563 texts have been sent to six members of my family from this person,” Rodriguez alleged about Gonzales. “It’s gotten way out of hand, to the point where they even began to follow us and broke into our home. It’s been a nightmare.”

Rodriguez was referring to incidents in which the victim and certain members of her family received daily texts, allegedly from Gonzales, informing them that they were being watched and claimed to have gained entry into Rodriguez’ home. Citing a telephone conversation between a police detective and the suspect, Rodriguez said Gonzales allegedly obtained the cell phone number of the victim’s mother and four other family members “from school records.”

“Wherever we went – whether it was going to the store, to work or just going home – we would receive text messages from her (suspect) gloating that she knew exactly where we were, what we were wearing, what we were doing and who we were with,” Rodriguez said, adding, “We’ve also seen her and her boyfriend following us, and sometimes they even threatened to shoot us. The police sometimes witnessed these texts as we received them. It got worse on Wednesday because the girl had sent us text messages saying that her boyfriend got into our house when nobody was home, and she proved it by describing some of our personal belongings that only someone who was in our residence on that day could know.”

What’s more, Rodriguez said she has reason to believe that her daughter, the 17-year-old victim’s mother, may have had her cell phone infected with some sort of spyware that allowed Gonzales to keep tabs on her. “We would be talking about something, and it was just between the two of us, and moments later my daughter would get a text message from (the suspect) commenting on what we had just discussed,” a visibly-distraught Rodriguez said. “This really got crazy. It was unbelievable how we lived in fear from one day to the next without knowing if this little girl really planned to carry out her threats.”

Such threats, Rodriguez continued, included violent and sexually-explicit text messages that the family provided to the San Benito News via phone records, one of which reads that the teen victim “will burn in hell and get raped by the devil.” Another threat, this one sent in five separate text messages, states, “Her insides will rot and I’ll eat her heart like a meat ball and her intestines as noodles and blood with spaghetti…Yum so good finger nails as cheese…You can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man.”

When asked if police will investigate Gonzales’ boyfriend based on the victims’ allegations, and whether officers may continue to pursue additional charges such as terroristic threats and stalking, Banda said, “If there is anything pending, they will probably assign it to another investigator.”

“I know that the investigators are looking at this case in particular because there were some issues brought up,” Banda further remarked. “They’re trying to gather more evidence in this case because she (Gonzales) refused to talk to us.”

Gonzales remains free after posting $5,000 bond – $2,500 on each count – set by Municipal Court Judge Benjamin Yudesis.
