Special to the NEWS

And then there were four.

The San Benito Lady ’Hounds, just one of only four Valley softball clubs remaining in the state playoffs, will hit the road this weekend.

San Benito (29-2) will take on 29-5A champion Eagle Pass (28-6) in a Class 5A regional quarterfinal best-of-three series. All games will be played at the United ISD Student Activity Center in Laredo. Game 1 is set for Friday night at 8 p.m. Game 2 is slated for Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. with a third game (if necessary) to be played 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2.

The Lady ’Hounds sport a perfect 4-0 record in the playoffs courtesy of series sweeps of Brownsville Hanna and Edinburg North to ease into the third round.

“We know them well since we’ve played them before,” Lady ’Hound coach Elias Martinez said of Eagle Pass over the weekend. “We don’t know this year’s team that well, but we’ve got a week to prepare for them.”

I am here in Laredo and it is raining hard. We win game one as the storm stopped the game in the 6th with the Lady’s up 2-0. We dont know where next games will be played as it has rained here for over 2 hours. Hope the valley gets some of this rain,
