Although the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees have again decided to take no action on the superintendent’s contract, which has been in question now for over three months, members did offer their evaluation of the superintendent via individual input.

In a move that Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón said was uncommon since he’s held the position, board members decided during a special meeting held Monday evening to submit written evaluations individually, which will then be presented by attorney Tony Torres, the district’s legal counsel, at the May 14 regular meeting.

“This is the first time that this has happened to me, so I’m not sure if it’s out of the norm or not,” Limón said if he’s been evaluated in such a method in the past. “As far as I’m concerned, this is the first time that each board member has done a written evaluation on me. Usually they (board members) have a consensus before they leave the room.”

QBSB,your posts lead me to nominate you for the San Benito School District’s “Poster Child”.
You illustrate exactly what happens to the student body, when emphasis is placed on the administrators, teachers, employees, and vendors, and of course the board, rather than the students,as the superintendent said,he’s concerned over the jobs, for the employees, not whether the students can read or write, much less add,or subtract, just the jobs, for the employees.A feudal system,at best.
But QBSB,according to your post, you matriculated some time ago,so apparently this system has been in place for a great while, some things just never change. The whole system needs to be purged, from top to bottom.
    Get after it,TEA.

As you can keenly observe, the word parent was spelled as patent in one instance in my article. Since I used this particular word numerous times, rest assured I do know how to spell parent. I will not point my finger at my IPHONE’S spell check feature, I will hold myself accountable for this erroneous lack of proof reading on my part. Ok, enough of the negative, time to check in to “Happy Place”,

The dysfunction of SBCISD is at the board level, and always has been. This time around, it just so happens that there are some on the board that have no integrity from the first day, and have no business being there.
It is all about them, what they can steal, how many of their friends they can get hired, how many of their enemies they can get fired, and so on. Sadly the district and community will suffer.

    @ Downward spiral:

I am certainly not saying I condone what appears to be a lack of enforcement, or student accountability to rules & procedures. But if you think SBHS students display intolerable behavior, I invite you to visit Brownsville Porter, or Donna HS. After a visit to these campuses, you will tend to be a lil more forgiving of the flaws in the behavior of SBHS students.
In essence to your question, should we just settle & let it be, I figured my response was self-explainatory. I certainly do not accept the status quo, but as many of my esteemed fellow bloggers have pointed out, parents must step up and do a better job of disciplining their children, and holding them accountable for their behavioral issues and misbehaves. My children, who are now grown up, will attest to the fact that we were very strict with them, tough love as some refer to it, but we showered them with love and an overbundance of support.

As you may know, Texas Open House Week was recently observed. Teachers work extremely hard getting their classrooms ready, and preparing material to discuss a student’s area of opportunity with patents. I was dismayed, but not surprised, when some teacher friends told me that only 3, 4, maybe 5 parents had shown up to see how their children were doing. To me, this speaks volumes as to the commitment, or lack of, some parents invest in the educational upbringing of their children.

It is easy to point the finger at a teacher, a principal, or at the administration. But let’s first insure the children’s parents get involved. And there is no doubt in my mind, or anyone else’s for that matter, that some teachers, and a principal or two need to be held more accountable, I trust and pray those issues are being addressed.

By now you might be thinking I am in the teaching profession, the truth is I don’t have the patience, or the tolerance, to be an educator, especially for the pay they receive for services rendered. But I do have family members, and numerous friends that I am proud to say are teachers, or in administrative positions. I marvel at their dedication, commitment, and oh yes, their overly concern for tomorrow’s leaders. The school board needs to be a fine oiled machine & work as one in order for us to see the end result we all strive for.

    Sin Fin

Everybody see,the same theme prevails, what about the contracts, for the workers, what about the purchasing of items, all money motivated, for them, employees and vendors, not about the students benefit.
Get after it TEA,round them all up,lock-em up,throw away the key.

I hear that someone’s daddy wants some purchase contracts for approval. Sure hope the Purchasing Agent has looked at everything carefully. TEA does not look kindly on purchases that are not correct. District will have to pay back quite a bit of money. It has happened in the past.
Let us not forget that NO EMPLOYEE HAS A CONTRACT. Why isn’t anyone standing up for the teachers, librarians, nurses, or counselors. Why not?
To the superintendent: hang in there sir. Those board members who want to buy you out do not care about you, your family, or this district. They have their own agenda and pay back is what it is. We are praying for you and this district.
Sure hope all Employees come to the May 14 Board meeting.

@Dillion: Last Week I too was at SBHS as a parent. I was there for half a day. Students were engaged in the lessons in the classrooms I observed. The teachers and students were focused on Preparing for the state tests. Student behavior is what it is. Our children are in schools that do not represent the school climate of when we as parents went to school. Yes, in the 70’s we smoked at a designated place on campus and it was allowed.
Do not group all the students into the “bad apple” group. Does The high school principal need to be more visible? Yes. Does she know the students? Not all of them I am sure. However, students are known to hang out in certain places. I sure hope she is visible.
Fedup is right. Go visit other big high schools. You will not be surprised. By the way, I hear there is a new principal coming to town.

Please, why don’t the people who need to take responsibility, (parents) for the behavior of the students take it. Yes, there should be better discipline at the schools, but discipline comes from home first. We as parents need to change the behavior at home so that our youth will grow up and do better than we have done so far. And by the way why are cell phones allowed at school, don’t the offices have phones. Come on, elementary kids with cell phones?????

“Unfortunately that’s the world we live in nowadays”.
i hope you arent implying that we should just settle and let it be – accept it.

oh that guy shot him in the head, i only shot him in the shoulder. at least im not as bad as that guy. the lesser of two evils is still evil.

flaws are flaws. the world is the way it is nowadays. it shouldnt make it ok to settle. in my opinion, many parents and students live by this philosophy and its a huge reason why the school district, local cities, state, and nation appear to be in a downward spiral. little things add up to big things. running a lap, mile, 5k, 10k, half marathon, marathon, they all begin with a step and continuously add up.

James, don’t judge all of fine students at SBHS by what you see some doing. If you looked beyond the surface you will find many future leaders. Apparently you have already made up your mind.

  1. Yea! the 70’s were great years! Love you Man! Always trying to point out the negative . Here’s one for all the James Dillions of the world.

Black Oak Arkansas’s “Lord Have Mercy on My Soul”.

It’s like my dad use to says “It’s always been happening through the decades it’s the same song and dance it’s just some people are just taking notice.”

@ James Dillion, I was at SBHS last Thursday, matter of fact. Oh yes, I am not overly pleased at the young generation’s behavioral traits, there is much to be desired. Unfortunately that’s the world we live in nowadays. But I attended SBHS in the 70’s (and proud of it), and I must admit we probably didn’t behave any better than today’s kids. We staged walk outs, protested hair length rules, smoked on campus, etc etc etc.

In the interim, I am filled with joy sipping on a cold one enjoying “Happy Place”.

I do not know Dr. Limon. I cannot and will not judge him personally because I have never made any observations regarding his demeanor or behavior. I can say I think he is weak in terms of being the instructional leader of the district. Dillion, how can you say that. Just spend one day at the High School….just one day in the halls and the classrooms. I believe most people would be shocked at the behavior displayed by many of the students at this campus. Let’s make a list: sexual petting in the hallways, cursing, students
“plugged in” to their phones IN THE CLASSROOMS, food consumed in the classrooms, students plugging in
their phones to recharge them using school utilities….if you have not spent one whole day at this school then
you have no idea what is really going on. If there is any blame it belongs to the Superintendent and the Principal. Period. QBSB and Fedup…come back from “HAPPY PLACE” and ask the Principal if you can visit the campus either as a parent or taxpayer. Your jaw will drop.

And the drama continues, also another excuse for not doing the jobs you were hired to do,educating the youth of San Benito, put everything on hold, while you worry over your contract/cash settlement. This whole San Benito public school system needs to be dissolved, done away with, and started all over, anew.Don’t laugh, the TEA is closely monitoring your actions, the end maybe much closer than any of these people think, time for a change.
