emergency-lightsAuthorities have yet to confirm the cause of death and identity of a man who died Monday after his pickup truck crashed into a telephone pole in La Paloma.

According to Sergeant Johnny Hernandez of the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers were called to the scene of an accident at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 1.

Hernandez said a 61-year-old man from San Benito was traveling west on Espinosa Road when he lost control and crashed into a telephone pole. The motorist reportedly died at a local hospital a short time later. Reports indicated that Hernandez may not have succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident, the extent of which remains largely unknown, but from a heart attack. Still, DPS officials have refrained from making such a determination.
