emergency-lightsTwo Berta Cabaza Middle School students have been arrested following numerous allegations of theft, criminal trespassing and arson, San Benito police reported Friday.

“We received a number of different calls about these kids causing a ruckus all over town,” said Assistant Operations Chief Michael Galvan of the San Benito Police Department about the suspects, who due to their juvenile status cannot be identified.

“The kids did admit to starting a grass fire on Railroad Avenue. They were brought in on Thursday,” Galvan further remarked.

According to Galvan, the students were identified by authorities after word had spread around campus about their alleged activity.

“The school officials brought them into the office after word got around,” said Galvan. “Basically they helped us in that part of the investigation.”

Information regarding the date and time the crimes were committed, including arraignment and incarceration details, are currently pending an open records request for the police report.

When asked to verify the aforementioned details, San Benito CISD Police Chief Santiago R. Garcia deferred all questions to SBPD officers.
